"Once upon a time, like two thousand hundred years ago, there were three famous men by the names of Damien, Jesus, and Jose. They had thrones called crosses. Jesus walked on the earth just like you and me and he did many miracles and science observations. But there was a big problem in the world. Called slavery. The bad guys took Jesus and all the rest of the people from Africa and made them do slavery. But Jesus had a dream... that all the little children in the world- black and white and brown... would all play together and have peace on earth."
My daughter Sofia shared this story with me a few weeks ago while riding in our car to Tucson. Don't get me wrong- I am proud of her ability to integrate information from various sources (the occasional Sunday School lesson, MLK Day, and her daily exposure to "observations" in Kindergarten) and see how the world fits together. But as I'm sitting here writing this, the kids down at the skate park and me blogging with the sounds of church bells in the background, I can't help but think... We are so going to church next week.
So funny. Owen has his own unique theology, too.
